Vimalalayam College, one of the traditional Women colleges established in Cochin, Kerala is highly honoured for its quality education for women and has established itself as a bench mark of excellence for promoting education, quality of living and technical education for women as well as empowerment of women.
When the welfare centre took shape and started serving its purpose, the focus turned towards the educated young women of the upper strata in society. They needed to be equipped for family life and a career too. The Vimalalayam College came into being with a Home Science department and a Secretarial Course granting a diploma/certificate to those who successfully completed the program. The hostel became an integral part of the institution, providing a safe abode to the young students.
Vimalalayam adapted to the ever-growing needs in society by introducing a college for girls pursuing the commerce stream. The first batch of the Plus two of the commerce stream started in 1995 and then came the need for the B.com program following the M.G university syllabus. Other job oriented short term courses also started alongside- Baking, Cooking, Corporate management studies, Computer training, Spoken and Business English classes. Apart from the regular curriculum, Personality development and training in social skills help in building confident individuals who are ready to pursue a career of their choice. The Vimalalayam hostel caters to the needs of students (girls) from other colleges as well. It is a safe abode in the heart of the city, well connected to other institutions of work and study. The Home Science courses are tailored to equip and hone the skills of every girl whether she chooses to be a homemaker or an entrepreneur. The beautiful campus with its granite edifice is a landmark in the city of Kochi.
